Members of the Trust filled St Benedict's Church Glastonbury on Saturday 8th April for their Annual Meeting on an unseasonably warm and sunny day with clear blue skies. Click on the heading for more about the day.
Following reports form Acting Chairman David Sisson, Treasurer Tony Davies, Chris Hawkings Ride+Stride Administrator, Gill Hawkings Membership Secretary and William Newsom on Legacies Mark Hutchinson from Glastonbury Abbey gave us a fascinating talk entitled a Glimpse of Glastonbury Abbey's influence on Churches and Life in Somerset and Beyond. Mark brought to life what it must have been like in the Abbey in the 16th century when the equivalent of almost £170,000 was spent in one year on meat and fish products alone for the Abbey Kitchen.
Following tea and cakes members walked the short distance to the Abbey for conducted tours by Abbey Monks enjoyed in glorious sunshine.
Ride+Stride. For the first time in the history of the event silver cups and certificates were presented to both the individual and church who raised the most in sponsorship. For the event held on 10th September 2016 Dan Shorland Ball collected the cup on behalf of Holy Trinity Long Sutton and Lindsay Welfare received the individual award. Chris Hawkings the Ride+Stride Administrator presented both awards to these very worthy winners. Chris is pictured above presenting the silver cup to Lindsay.
